Warner Brothers Original Italian 2-foglio (39x55), linen backed in fine plus condition, for the musical film PAINTING THE CLOUDS WITH SUNSHINE (1951) starring Virginia Mayo, Dennis vente en gros Morgan, Gene Nelson, Lucille Norman, S.Z. "Cuddles" Sakall, Tom Conway, Wallace Ford and Franklyn Farnum. The film dates from the best period of musicals from Warner Brothers, roughly 1948 to 1955. Directed, appropriately, by David Butler who also handled many of the Doris Day musicals from this period. The plot is thin but time-tested in this movie: three gals trying to find a husband. In Las Vegas! Of course, they are showgirls. The musical is populated with songs from various songwriting teams, many of which appeared in previous films, including "Tiptoe Thru the Tulips", "With A Song in My Heart", "Were In the Money". The movie itself was a remake of GOLD DIGGERS OF BROADWAY (1929). At the center of this movie was Warners other blonde, Virginia Mayo. Indeed this Italian 2-foglio, a portrait of Mayo, shows the films star as the chief attraction. The poster does not have the signature of an artist, but we attribute it to Luigi Martinati because of the overwhelming amount of work he did for Warners during this period. The poster has been linen-backed and there was some restoration, a rough spot on Mayos forehead has been touched up skillfully, Some touch up at the fold lines. Presents well.
